Controlled-release technology for crop protection

A carrier matrix protects natural active ingredients and controls their release, supporting localized delivery and prolonged availability.

Phytoguard's controlled-release technology is designed to stabilize volatile natural bioactive ingredients and release them gradually in the root zone, where plant-parasitic nematodes attack. A carrier matrix protects the active ingredients and controls their release, supporting localized delivery and prolonged availability.

The technology underpins NemaGuard Duo, our lead program. We are also exploring its use in other crop-protection and plant-nutrition applications.

How it works

  1. Natural bioactives

Essential-oil-based active ingredients. In NemaGuard Duo, two actives are combined for a synergistic effect.

  2. Carrier matrix

Protects volatile ingredients from rapid loss and meters their release into the surrounding soil.

  3. Root-zone delivery

Releases the ingredients around plant roots, so the actives reach the place where nematodes feed.

  4. Prolonged availability

Designed to extend activity over time, replacing a short burst with a sustained level.

Why controlled release

Essential oils show activity against soil pests, but they are volatile and short-lived once applied. Stabilizing them in a carrier matrix and releasing them gradually is intended to make natural actives practical at field scale.

  • More consistent exposure in the root zone
  • Potentially fewer applications per season
  • A product built around naturally derived ingredients
